Local legend states it was bestowed upon the Laguiole village as a token of Napoleon's gratitude for the townspeople's courage during his many battles. Others insist that the bee represents the knife's reliability. The blade, made of high-grade stainless steel, is stamped, then ground and then polished in over 25 different manual production stages.
